Monday 2/29/2016 Stream Observations

Conditions
Date: 2/29/2016
Time: 12:04 pm
Weather: sunny with clear blue skies, westerly winds gusting up to 45 mph, 55 degrees

Observations
Stream Conditions: turbidity very low, clear water, no oil on water surface, fairly low flow   
      Stage behind the Weir: 16 cm 
      Observations that May Affect Water Quality: small pieces of litter, low turbidity, embankment erosion, giant plastic bag in duck pond, twigs/leaves 
Stage behind weir: reading = 16 cm, actual height = 37 cm

Analysis
Estimated Flow Rate: 7.6 cfs

Weather Condition: Sunny, windy, cold, 33 degrees Fahrenheit

Water Quality - very clear, no oil on top layer, bottom is visible, some trash

Flow Observations - faster than usual, estimated about 15 cfs

Thursday 2/25/2016 – Stream Observations

Date: 2/25/2016
Time: 2:45PM
Weather Condition: Cloudy, windy, slight snow flurries

Water Quality:
-          Low turbidity, bottom of stream visible in most parts
-          Mostly clear except for middle, deeper portion of the stream

Flow Observations:
-          Slow flow conditions
-          Estimated flow rate: 4 cfs

Miscellaneous Notes:
-          Water depth behind the weir read 19 (inches?)
-          Stream was clean of any debris and other fluid substances

-          Storm drain had no noticeable flow at time of observation

Weather Condition: Cloudy / Some Rain.  36 degrees Fahrenheit

Water Quality

  • Highly turbid, bottom not visible
  • Murky brown / gray color
Flow Observations
  • Moderate / High flow conditions due to rain
  • Estimated flow rate: 12 cfs
Miscellaneous Notes
  • No trash in water
  • LEWAS system was obstructed with debris, however during my visit it was being cleaned by other researching students.
  • Storm drain had a constant, but minor flow

Weather Condition: Cloudy/Overcast. Cold, 43 degrees Fahrenheit

Water Quality
  • Slightly turbid, bottom barely visible
  • Green/teal color
Flow Observations
  • Flow conditions seem slightly more intense than "normal"
  • Estimated Flow rate: 10 cfs
Miscellaneous Notes
  • Sprite can only sign of trash
  • 24" concrete storm drain outfall has continuous trickle

Weather Conditions: Overcast with small amounts of sunshine.  Cool, 44 degrees F, slight breeze 

Water Quality Observations:
Turbidity higher than earlier in the week 
- Turbulent flow in the vicinity of the weir
Stage Behind Weir: reading: 18 cm, actual height: 39 cm
Estimated Flow: 7.5 cfs
Misc. Observations:
- Some debris and trash present 
- Salt concentration likely higher than normal due to runoff and salted roads

Weather Conditions: Overcast with small amounts of sunshine peeking through!, cool, 34 degrees F, slight breeze 

Water Quality Observations: 
Turbidity considerably lower than earlier in the week 
- Slightly turbulent flow in the vicinity of the weir



Stage Behind Weir: reading: 17 cm, actual height: 38 cm

Estimated Flow: 8.22 cfs

Misc. Observations:
- Some debris and trash present 
- Salt concentration likely higher than normal due to runoff
