General Information
- Date: Wednesday, April 20, 2016
- Time: 1:20 PM
Weather Conditions
- Clear blue skies and sunny with no wind.
- Ambient temperature was approximately 69 °F.
- No precipitation observed throughout the day.
Water Quality Observations
- Stream was very clear with virtually no turbidity.
- No oil or other contaminants observed.
Stream Stage
- Water level was at the 9-cm mark on the measuring stick inside the culvert. The approximate stage behind the weir was 30 cm (0.98 ft).
Stream Discharge
- From the stage observations, the estimated flow rate was 4.2 cfs.
Other Observations
- Both storm sewer outfalls near the LEWAS station were dry.
- Trash previously observed near the stream had been collected.
- The same duck was back for another visit. She's become the unofficial mascot of the LEWAS lab.
LEWAS Data
- Water temperature readings are continuing to increase over time, likely in response to increasing ambient temperatures.
- The flow rates shown below are noticeably less than that estimated from the stage reading. Calibration errors between the stage-discharge equation and the digital flow meter might explain the discrepancies.
- In general, flow rate readings are decreasing, possibly in response to sustained dry weather, and also evaporation due to rising water temperatures.
- Turbidity increased sharply starting at approximately 6 PM on April 19th and continuing until 9 AM on April 20th, after which the measurements returned to normal.
- Turbidity readings were very low at the time of inspection, coinciding with visual observations.
